KUCHING: Besides putting out fires and rescuing survivors from burning buildings, firefighters also help to evacuate flood victims, rescue those trapped in cars during traffic accidents or those lost in the jungle and help to capture venomous and dangerous reptiles.
Multi-talented and good in survival skills, they are respected members of the Fire and Rescue Department.
New Sarawak Tribune talked to several firefighters to find out why it was important for them to have multi-skills.

‘Firefighters are also humantarian workers. Besides putting out fires, we rescue people and save lives as well. We give good service to the people.’

‘Firemen must be multi-skilled to handle all kinds of emergencies. The world has become more complex. Public safety is our top priority and we provide all kinds of assistance.’
