MIRI: Fake news on Covid-19 that has gone viral on Facebook on Tuesday (Nov 17) has caused quite a stir among Mirians.

Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusuf.

The news was posted on Facebook by someone named ‘Jenifer Lawrence’, which claimed that a tourist bus has been used to transport 46 passengers from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah (by land) to Miri recently.

Miri acting Resident Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusuf yesterday (Nov 18) said a police report on the false claim will be lodged.

He said that the Facebook post was inaccurate and has created a misleading impression to the public.

“The post, together with a news article written in Chinese, is absolutely fake and untrue.

“We are also reporting this matter to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for further investigation,” said Abdul Aziz.

The post was believed to have been deleted today as it could no longer to be found.

Abdul Aziz also reminded the public not to spread false information and make sure to check their facts before sharing any information on social media.
