Woman among three arrested for obstructing cops

KUCHING: Three local individuals were arrested after trying to obstruct police officers at Jalan Stampin on Wednesday (Nov 25).

Kuching police chief, ACP Awang Din Awang Gani said in the 3.40pm incident, three suspects comprising two men aged 27 and 39 plus a woman, 28, were arrested.

The incident happened when a team of police personnel who were on a crime prevention patrol attempted to inspect a suspicious vehicle.

Sources said the vehicle was park at the roadside of Jalan Lorong Stampin 2. However, the driver suddenly fled and sped away from the scene upon being approached by police officers.

“Efforts were made to stop the car from escaping and this led the police on a 30 minutes chase with the suspects.

“The chase ended when the suspects’ vehicle skidded off the road at Jalan Burung Rawa, hitting a street pole in the process,” said the district police chief.

Further investigation found that all three suspects had previous criminal records involving drug offences.

The investigations are currently ongoing under Section 186 of the Penal Code.
