KUCHING: The Fujian Provincial People’s Government is offering a scholarship to one Sarawak student in Fujian Province.
The first time offer is open to Sarawakian of all races to undergo an 11-month programme which will start in September 2017 until July, 2018.
According to Assistant Minister for Rural Economy (Coastal Area) and Fisheries and Assistant Minister for Industrial Development (Investment and Promotion) Datuk Haji Julaihi Haji Narawi the scholarship will cover tuition fees, accommodation expenses, comprehensive medical insurance, and an allowance of RMB800 per month, for 11 months.
“Those interested who fulfil the requirement by the Fujian Provincial People’s Government or state, know basic Chinese or has English-speaking skills, holder of junior college degree or above and below 45 years old may apply for the scholarship.
“Air tickets, meals and utility bills are excluded and have to be borne by the successful applicant,” said Julaihi during a press conference at Wisma Sumber Alam, Jalan Stadium, yesterday.
Further details on the scholarship are available in the application forms which have been circulated and can also be downloaded from www.mieti.sarawak.gov.my.
The closing date to submit the application forms for endorsement by the ministry is 31 March, 2017.
The scholarship programme started in 2013 and offered by the Foreign Affairs Office of Fujian Provincial People’s Government (Fujian FAO) and Fujian Provincial Department of Education (Fujian DOE) to foreign students to foster closer ties between Fujian and other countries around the world as well as to deepen foreign understanding about the province.
The programme has benefited students from Okinawa and Nagasaki, Japan, Khon Kaen, Thailand, Luang Prabang, Laos, Opole, Poland, Central Java, Indonesia and Gangwon and South Jeolla , South Korea.
Students will be offered Chinese language and culture classes and opportunities to understand the economic and social development of Fujian.
Also present were Deputy Consul of The People’s Republic of China in Kuching, Zhang Yang and Secretary General of the Federation of Kuching and Samarahan Division Chinese Associations, Lim Ah Ted.
