SARIKEI: A motorist was killed while his two passengers were severely injured in a collision involving a car and a bus at Mile 2, Jalan Bakong last Saturday.
The State Fire Department operations centre said it received an emergency call at 4.18pm and despatched firemen from Sarikei and Bintangor fire stations to the scene.
Upon arrival, operations commander Mahmudin Narudin reported that three victims in the car were trapped and sustained injuries as a result of the collision.
The firemen managed to extricate the victims using special rescue tools and handed them over to paramedics present at the scene.
The driver of the car identified as Callestine Ujang Libau, 29, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. The body was sent to Sarikei Hospital for post mortem.
The other two passengers sustained severe injuries and were rushed to Sarikei Hospital for immediate treatment.
Meanwhile, the bus driver and 15 passengers inside were unhurt in the collision.
In a separate accident on the same day, two adults and a teenager sustained minor injuries after their vehicle went out of control and plunged into a ravine at KM13, Jalan Sarikei-Bintangor.
Firemen, who were deployed to the scene, managed to extricate the victims from the vehicle and handed them over to paramedics before they were rushed to Sarikei Hospital for treatment.
