BAU: Bau folk can now dispose of their trash and unused goods by using a drive-through trash disposal system, while earning some cash from recyclable items.
The programme, ‘Trash to Cash Drive-through’, was held in conjunction with the ‘Bau is Going Green 2020’ programme organised by the Bau District Council.
Present to officiate at the event was Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep.
According to Henry, the initiative is the first-ever programme being held here.
“This is a good initiative by the council as it is to let people know how they could dispose of their unused goods properly.
“Not only that, the programme is also in line with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) with the practise of the new norm to dispose of trash without having to have physical contact to curb Covid-19,” he said during his speech at the launching ceremony of the programme at Tasik Biru here on Sunday (Dec 13).
Henry said the programme is a movement by the council to reduce garbage waste in the district.
“The council found out that people like to throw unused goods, such as old television, sofa and electronic, at their own will without realising the fact that these items are non-biodegradable.
“Thus, the council came up with this solution for every resident who does not know where to throw away specific trash,” he said.
Henry added that the programme will begin next year and will be held twice year.
Meanwhile, Bau District Council Secretary Simon Wong said he hoped that the programme would be expanded to accept recycling of e-waste items.
“For now, our recyclers only accept recyclable items and we will discuss further with them on expanding to accept more types of waste,” he said.
At the same event, Henry also officiated at the ‘Kita Jaga Kita’ (Otto Jaga Otta) programme for Bau District to promote and spread awareness of Covid-19.
Also present was Ministry of Local Government and Housing Community Development head Desmond Douglas Jerukan and acting Bau District officer Eddy Nayoi.
