KUCHING: Sarawak recorded two new positive Covid-19 cases today; each in Sibu and Miri, bringing the total number of positive cases in the state to 1,087.
According to Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), Case 1,086 is a local retiree who underwent screening at Sibu Hospital on Dec 18 and his result came back positive for the virus on the same day. This case was categorised as a local infection.
Case 1,087 is a local teacher who had returned to Sarawak from Selangor through Miri Airport on Dec 15. Upon arrival, the case was instructed to undergo 14-day mandatory quarantine at home due to no vacant room at quarantine centre and the condition of the case’s house who is living by himself.
“The case underwent screening on Dec 17 and the result came back positive. This case was categorised as Import B – an individual infected while being in an area at risk of Covid-19,” it said in a statement.
Both cases did not show any signs and symptoms. They were admitted to Sibu Hospital and Miri Hospital for further treatment, respectively.
Contact tracing for both cases is underway.
SDMC also reported that there were two new recovery and discharged cases, bringing the total number to 1,052 or 96.78 percent.
As of today, there were 16 cases still receiving treatment at hospitals, namely 11 at Sarawak General Hospital, three at Sibu Hospital, one at Bintulu Hospital and one at Miri Hospital.
On the other hand, three new person-under-investigation (PUI) cases were reported with one awaiting lab test results.
Sarawak still has only one active cluster – Besi cluster with the total positive cases remain at 12 including index case.
