KUCHING: Four teams have confirmed their slots into the semifinals of Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Haji Johari Tun Openg Cup 2017. As expected, two teams, namely the defending champions of Kuching-Lea Sports Centre League 2017, DBKU-Borneo Island and the Yayasan Sarawak-Sanjung Etika were among the favourites. DBKU-Borneo Island made it to the semi-finals after beating Al- Malizia 5-0 in a match at Padang C, Petra Jaya last Sunday.
However, Yayasan Sarawak- Sanjung Etika team also won 4-0 over Muffa team in the match held at the Sarawak Stadium, Petra Jaya last Saturday to confirm their status in the top four. Two other teams that have qualified for the semi-finals were Gedong Gators who won a 4-1 over the Axis Academy at State Stadium, Petra Jaya on Saturday.
KSK Satok won a victory over Punggur Wibawa in a match at State Stadium, Petra Jaya on Sunday to complete the semi-finalists lineup. Kuching Division Football Association (PBKK) honorary secretary, Kamaluddin Haji Akil said the list of four teams in the semi-finals is already known. “The semi-final stage will take two on different dates.
