KUCHING: Sacofa Sdn Bhd is always committed to supporting the state government’s initiative to bridge the digital divide between the rural and urban areas.
Its managing director Mohamed Zaid Zaini said the company is currently working on various government projects together with the Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
“Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has recently announced his plan to allocate some funds to provide connectivity through fixed wireless access.
“That is why we are working very closely with the government to ensure that in the next coming years, rural folk will also get connected,” he told reporters after hosting the 2020 Sacofa Media Night held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here last Friday.
When asked on the progress of projects at targeted areas, he said at the moment, some of the obvious ones would be in Mulu, which is nearing completion, and Kapit.
“We are rolling out a minimum of 100mbps at a resort in Mulu, so it will help draw tourism to the area.
“Nowadays, tourists need internet connection to do streaming, to share some of their experiences in Sarawak. This would help the tourism sector and other sectors as well,” he said.
