KUCHING: Puncak Borneo MP Willie Mongin scoffed at the recent move made by Larry Sng to step down as Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sarawak chairman.

He quipped at the Julau MP to drop his melancholy excuse and questioned if his decision to let a Dayak lead the party was really sincere.

“Let’s say that a Dayak is more relevant to helm the position, then why did you have to run to be the chairman?” teased Willie when speaking to reporters at a press conference after officiating at the Malaysian Pepper Board service award and certificate presentation at Imperial Hotel today.

The former PKR member said this when asked to comment on Sng’s decision to step down from his position as PKR Sarawak chairman to give leeway for a Dayak to helm the post.

On Monday, Sng announced his decision to step down from his position, saying this was in the best interest of the party to be led by a Dayak leader.

Sng wrote in a Facebook post that it is necessary to let a Dayak lead the party to ensure the community continues to fight for their rights.

“Dayaks are the majority in Sarawak, yet their areas are the poorest and most under-developed.

“I believe that by making this change within the party leadership, it would augur well and lend the party more credibility.”
