MIRI: A 53-year-old man and his two daughters, aged 16 and 11, escaped unhurt on Saturday after their car caught fire.
They were on their way back to Miri from a relative’s house in Batu Niah when the car came to an abrupt halt and thick smoke came bellowing out of the engine compartment.
After that, the car went up in flames around 4.20pm along the Miri Coastal Road near Tusan Beach.
Other road users, who happened to be passing by the area, immediately stopped to help the man and his daughters.
According to Batu Niah chief Francis Aceh, all victims escaped unhurt.
Six firefighters from the Batu Niah fire station were deployed to the scene which was located at about 60km away.
By the time the firefighters arrived, the fire had already destroyed the vehicle.
