BAU began as a small town that revolved around gold and resource mining. Now, Bau district has developed into an area flourishing with ecotourism potential and growth.
However, the development will not stop there as more projects will be implemented to transform the district into a greater Bau.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg revealed total development funds of RM223 million for Bau at the Bau Bicentennial Celebration (BBC) held at Tasik Biru compound here on Thursday (Dec 31).
The people of Bau are naturally excited and welcome the transformation of the district into a greater Bau.

I am happy and grateful to have Datuk Henry Harry Jinep as the people’s representative for Tasik Biru. He is doing his best to bring development to the people. I hope Bau will continue to progress to provide more job opportunities for its people, especially the youth.
Jack Oduin, private officer
I hope more tourists will come to Bau and get a chance to explore a lot of tourism products here such as the culture of the Bidayuh, Serikin Market, and waterfalls. I would also like to see Bau promoted and marketed widely.
Jennervia Piela, civil servant
I hope the economy in Bau will improve so that there will be more job opportunities for youth. Then they can find work here instead of working in other urban centres such as Kuching.

Tasik Biru has changed over the years. The history of Bau may be associated with antimony and gold mining activities but it has now developed into a town with many basic facilities such as schools, offices, grocery shops and places of attraction.
