KUCHING: Parents’ negligence which allowed their child to wander around without a guardian can be charged under the Child Act 2001.
On Sunday (Jan 3), two young children aged 2 and 4, were found by the public wandering around Kuching and Kota Samarahan.
At around 4pm, a two-year-old girl was found wandering without a guardian in front SJK Chung Hua No 4.
The child was brought to Satok police station where she was later picked up by her father there.
Meanwhile in Kota Samarahan, a four-year-old boy was spotted wandering around Taman Bukit Stigang by a police team.
The boy was taken to the police station around 10am and later picked up by his father.
Kota Samarahan police chief DSP Sudirman Kram said the family lived in Taman Sentoria and the boy is believed to have left the house when his father was repairing the top floor of their house.
“The father came down and found that his son, who was earlier watching the television in the living room, was not around and thought that his son went with his mother to clean another part of the house.
Sudirman added that if anything undesirable happens to the child due to parental negligence, the parents can be charged under the Child Act 2001.
