KUCHING: Community leaders and village chiefs (KMKK) should play the role as eyes and ears of the government towards ensuring that the state is free from the Covid-19 pandemic, said Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Satok Branch deputy chief Datuk Ibrahim Baki.
He pointed out that with the increase in positive Covid-19 cases in the state, community leaders had been entrusted to always be vigilant and sensitive against the pandemic.
“If you see there are individuals or communities that do not follow the standard operating procedures (SOPs), you have a responsibility in reprimanding them.
“With the occurrence of illegal immigrants (Pati) who enter the state through rat trails (jalan tikus), we must be vigilant because such things could harm our community’s health,” he said at an appreciation night organised by Satok KMKK here on Tuesday.
He also explained that KMKK needed to take care of their area and maintain peace and order in their respective villages.
“What is important is that our leadership structure, namely community leaders and tribal leaders, are examples and icons to the community at the grassroots level.
“Therefore, those appointed must be friendly with the local community,” he said while noting that there are around 6,000 such leaders in the state.
Ibrahim also said that Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg had expressed his satisfaction on the performance of KMKK Satok.
