KUCHING: The eleven days of carnival held at the Summer Shopping Mall in Kota Samarahan near here finally drew its curtain down, ending various fun-filled activities as well as live performances by TN50 ambassador, Gabriel Fairuz Louis, Maxwell Frankli Saran and DJ Andonrock.

The closing ceremony last Sunday morning was made merrier with the presence of the guest of honour, Muara Tuang State Assemblyman, Dato’ Haji Idris Bin Haji Buang and Sarawak Saberkas chief executive, Izuan Khaironi. Speaking at the ceremony, Dato’ Idris commended Saberkas Muara Tuang branch for collaborating with the Summer Shopping Mall in organising the event. He added that the event brought many benefits to the people and thus attracting them to come to the mall. He also said through the event, the mall could become a hub or a meeting point for businesses as well as the people for social activities.

“This event will enhance the unity among the people of various racial and religion backgrounds in the state, particularly in the Muara Tuang constituency. This is just a starting point and I hope this event will continue to be held in the future, making it bigger and grander for the benefit of the people,” said Dato’ Idris who is also Chairman of Saberkas Muara Tuang branch. Izuan Khaironi, who spoke earlier at the ceremony, commended Saberkas Muara Tuang branch and the management of the Summer Shopping Mall for holding the carnival.

He said he was happy to see many activities held during the 11-day carnival which benefited the people. He hoped that the management of the Summer Shopping Mall would consider making Saberkas Muara Tuang branch as its strategic partner in organising future programmes for the local community.

Meanwhile, during the ceremony Dato’ Idris presented prizes to the winners of Summer Chef cooking competition. Warisan Rajawali team, comprising Asmiardy Buseral, Ahad Hafizi Hassin, Tuah Nurul Aim Yamdan and Azimah Yaman, was crowned the champion. They took home a hamper and RM500. In second place was Zamuha team, followed by Nang Rinduk team.

The teams each took home a hamper, RM300 and RM200, respectively. Among those present were Sarawak Saberkas executive secretary, Riduan Apandi, Saberkas Muara Tuang branch vice chairman I, Didi Bin Haji Udin, and vice-chai rman I I , Tuan Haj i Busman Bin Ramli.
