KUCHING: The delay in face-to-face learning session in schools is a perfectly opportune time to invest in online teaching and improve on it.

St Thomas Secondary School management board chairman Edgar Ong said everyone, especially the authorities and education fraternity, should take immediate action to ensure smooth transition to online teaching.

“It is paramount that the health and safety of all students come first and the management board believe both online teaching and learning can and will be further enhanced in the months ahead,” he told New Sarawak Tribune on Sunday (Jan 17).

In the meantime, he said the St Thomas school premises would continue to maintain the highest level of hygiene apart from ensuring that the standard operating procedures (SOPs) were followed by those who had to continue face-to-face learning sessions.

“This applies to all teachers, staff and students. No expense will be spared,” he added.

On Jan 16, the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) announced that the reopening of schools on Jan 20 would only apply to students sitting for major examinations.
