KUCHING: A policeman was among four individuals arrested in two separate drug raids last Tuesday (Jan 19).

Sarawak NCID chief ACP Jasmirol Jamaluddin said the first raid took place in a residence at Jalan Datuk Tawi Sli around 1pm where a 39-year-old policeman and a 42-year-old auto shop assistant were arrested.

During the raid, the suspect (policeman) was found holding a brown box while the second suspect was outside the registration counter.

The second suspect tried to escape towards a vehicle that was on the side of the building but was caught and arrested.

“The raiding team found drugs believed to be methamphetamine weighing more than three kilogrammes worth RM128,770 and 21 packets of ecstasy powder weighing 531g worth RM10,500.

“Both suspects tested positive for drugs, and are being remanded from Jan 21 until Jan 27 to facilitate investigations,” he said.

A police officer involved in the raid was injured by a suspect and was referred to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for treatment.

Meanwhile, the second raid took place in Stakan Jaya Light Industrial Park, Jalan Stakan and two suspects aged 25 and 31, were arrested.

“The raiding team seized 18 packets containing 657.40g of ecstasy mixed powder estimated to be worth RM9,000, 8.10g of ketamine worth RM1,215, 90 ecstasy pills worth RM2,700 and 15 Erimin-5 pills worth RM225.

“A four-wheel drive, two gold rings, a gold chain and RM899 cash were also seized from the suspects.

“Both suspects tested positive for drugs and were remanded from Jan 21 to 26,” he said.

Both cases are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries the mandatory death sentence and whipping upon conviction.
