KUCHING: A delegation from Yayasan Perpaduan Sarawak (YPS) or Sarawak Unity Foundation led by its deputy chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan paid a courtesy call on Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg at his office in Wisma Bapa Malaysia in Petra Jaya here on Friday morning (Jan 22).
During the 45-minute meeting, the chief minister was briefed on the foundation’s five-year strategic direction to help promote unity and foster harmony among the multi-religious and multi-racial people of Sarawak through cultural exchanges and education.
“Its activities would feature engaging with leaders to advocate the messages of unity through programmes involving various community influencers,” the foundation said in a statement.
In addition to their five-year plan, YPS would also feature targeted programmes to cultivate interest to appreciate local cultures and traditions.
“YPS also expressed hope to promote greater cross-culture appreciation through cultural research in local universities and abroad,” it added.
Currently under the chairmanship of the Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, YPS was established in 1994 as a non-profit organisation dedicated to nurturing and sustaining unity, harmony and peaceful co-existence among communities in Sarawak.
Also present during the courtesy call were YPS’ Strategic Direction Committee member Datuk Ose Murang and chief executive, Datuk Aloysius J. Dris.
