KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg today received a courtesy call from a delegation from the Borneo Medical Centre (BMC) board of directors led by its chairman Dr John Chew Chee Ming at the former’s office at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Dr John, who is also former president of the Malaysian Medical Association, said they informed Abang Johari about the expansion plans of BMC, which is located at Jalan Simpang Tiga.
The expansion aims to increase the capacity of the centre by 200 beds and is expected to be completed in four years’ time.
In addition, Dr John said BMC was prepared to assist and cooperate with the Health Ministry (MoH), especially in Sarawak with regard to tackling the Covid-19 pandemic and vaccinations, once available, for Sarawakians.
At this time under a state of Emergency, private hospitals are requested to admit Covid-19 patients. BMC has provided a special ward with eight beds and intensive care unit (ICU) equipment for this purpose.
Also present during the courtesy call, which lasted about 20 minutes, was Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan branch chairman Senator Robert Lau Hui Yew.
