KUCHING: Sarawak recorded one new Covid-19 related death in Sibu on Sunday (Jan 31) bringing the state’s death tally to 38 cases.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement said that case 4,299 was a local male, aged 73, who was found unconscious at home by his family on Jan 29. He was rushed to the hospital by an emergency ambulance team after receiving a distress call.

“He was pronounced dead by the medical personnel upon arrival at his house and the rt-PCR test taken on Jan 29 came back positive on the same day. The case had fever and flu three days earlier. He also had comorbidities namely high blood, diabetes and dyslipidemia,” SDMC said.

Meanwhile, 135 new positive cases were recorded in the state with 47 cases in Sibu, Miri (32), Bintulu (15), Bau (11), Subis and Song — seven each, Kuching (five), Kanowit (four), Lundu (three), Serian (two), while Sri Aman and Sebuah recorded one case each. This brings the total number of Covid-19 positive cases in the state to 4,450.

In Sibu District, 22 cases were individuals screened through active case detection of contact to positive Covid-19 cases, 17 cases involved the Pasai Cluster, five cases were symptomatic individuals screened at health clinics and three cases are individuals who underwent screening at a health facility in the district.

There are 12 cases involving the Rakut Cluster in Miri District while 11 cases were individuals screened through active case detection, eight cases involved symptomatic individuals screened at a health clinic in the district and one case involved the Pasai Cluster.

For Bintulu District, seven cases were individuals screened through active case detection, four cases involved the Rakut Cluster, two Import B cases of local individuals who returned from high-risk area namely Kedah, one case involved a symptomatic individual screened at health clinic and one case of other Covid-19 screening at health clinic in the district.

The eleven cases reported in Bau District involved the Tabong Cluster while the case in Sebauh District involved the Bukit Sekubong Cluster and Sri Aman District recorded one case of symptomatic individual screened at a health clinic there.

Seven cases involving the Pasai Cluster were recorded in Song District, Kanowit District with four cases and Lundu District with three cases.

Subis District recorded seven cases of individuals screened involving high-risk areas.

For Kuching District, two cases were individuals screened through active case detection, two Import B cases of local individuals who returned from high-risk area namely Kuala Lumpur and one Import C case from Sibu District via screening at a health clinic.

Serian District recorded one case involving the Bedayan cluster and one Import C case from Kuching District.
