SONG: The commencement of the movement control order (MCO) in Song District which came into effect today went smoothly.

Almost all shop premises were closed and locals who wished to purchase daily necessities had to line up in front of the store.

The decision to implement the MCO in Song District was received well by members of the community there, due to the increased level of awareness on the dangers of Covid-19.

Kenneth Arbit

When met, a resident, Kenneth Arbit, 33, expressed his support for the state government which took the measure of enforcing the MCO there, given the worrying level of Covid-19 infections.

“I strongly support the government’s decision to implement the MCO here as I believe it is the best step to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the community.

“I hope that the situation will improve and if Covid-19 infections still occur during the MCO, I would suggest that the two-week period be extended,” he said.

Jimmy Ribut

Meanwhile, another Song resident, Jimmy Ribut, 39, hoped that all Song residents would give their full cooperation in complying with directives under the MCO.

“The implementation of the MCO is an appropriate action to help control the public’s movement and curb the spread of Covid-19 among the local community,” he said.

On Jan 31, the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) announced that the MCO would be imposed in Song District from Feb 2 to Feb 15.

The district, which has been a red zone since Jan 29, showed a significant increase in Covid-19 cases following the alarming spread in the central zone involving the Pasai Cluster in Sibu in early January this year.
