BAU: A total of 126 members from the Regiment 511 Territorial Army or Askar Wataniah (AW) will be mobilised to Sibu on Thursday (Feb 4), said First Infantry Brigade Commander Major General Datuk Dzulkafli Mustaffa.
The Regiment 511 AW members from Kuching will be assigned to Sibu to assist in the movement control order (MCO) enforcement.
During his visit to Suba Buan roadblock today (Feb 2), Dzulkafli noted that the First Infantry Division remained committed in enforcing the MCO throughout Sarawak
“For roadblocks, a total of 131 military personnel from forces under the auspices of the First Division, were deployed at 16 locations throughout Sarawak, namely eight in Sibu, three each in Kuching and Miri, plus two in Bintulu.
“Apart from that, 102 personnel were also mobilised along with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to conduct vehicle patrols at 17 locations. Whereas for compliance monitoring team, 67 members are involved in 11 locations,” he said.
Recently, the army has also helped control the longhouses during the implementation of active case detection (ACD) by the Health Ministry (MoH) from Jan 21.
He pointed out that 111 members had been mobilised to 19 longhouses in Sri Aman, Serian, Sebauh and Bintulu.
Overall, 411 military personnel and 10 liaison officers are involved in the operation.
Hence, Dzulkafli called on the public to continue to abide by the MCO rules for the good of all.
“MCO enforcement is also implemented at border posts in Serikin, Tebedu, Balai Ringin, Lubok Antu and Teluk Melano together with the General Operations Force (GOF) and the Malaysian Immigration Department.
“The success of ‘Op Awas’ during Op Benteng’s implementation in Sarawak from May to Dec 31 last year saw a total of 620 undocumented foreigners and 37 ‘tekongs’ (agents) detained and the confiscated goods were valued at RM3,281,014.37.
“Whereas in Jan this year, a total of 71 undocumented foreigners and five ‘tekongs’ were detained with the value of confiscated goods worth RM249,701.00,” he said.
Also present with Dzulkafli during his visit were Third Infantry Brigade Commander Brigadier General Datuk Azhar Ahmad and Bau CID chief ASP Mohd Farid Abd Ghani.
