MUKAH: Twenty-six less fortunate individuals received ang pow (red packets) from the Mukah Chinese Community Benevolent Society in conjunction with the coming Chinese New Year (CNY) celebration here today.
Chairman Yeo Tiong Ing presented the monetary contributions to the recipients in a simple ceremony at a restaurant here.
He said the number of recipients had increased slightly this year compared to previous years.
“We help them a bit and hopefully, the contributions could help lessen their burdens,” he said.
Yeo, who is also Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Mukah chairman, added that he was not bothered about the fact that there would not be any CNY open house this year.
“We can still have it next year or the following year when the Covid-19 pandemic has ended,” he added.
For now and the next few months, he stressed that complying with the standard operating procedures set by the authorities is vital in order to break the chain of infection.
