Activities at temples allowed but with strict SOP

KUCHING: Prayer activities at temples during Chinese New Year (CNY) are allowed, but must be held in accordance with strict standard operating procedures (SOPs).

This is contained in an updated SOP released by the state Ministry of Local Government and Housing in conjunction with the CNY and Chap Goh Mei celebrations.

It said for the prayer activities, it is compulsory to comply with the SOP that has been set by the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor).

Meanwhile, other SOPs for CNY and Chap Goh Mei remain unchanged where reunion dinners on CNY eve are allowed with only close family members of not more than 20 persons.

As for CNY on Feb 12, visiting is allowed on the first day only and also limited to close family members of not more than 20 people.

However, activities such as open house, house to house visiting, lion and dragon dance, family reunion dinner at hotels or restaurants on CNY eve and CNY, celebration at temples including CNY bazaars are strictly prohibited.
