SIBU: A man with a white home surveillance and monitoring bracelet (HSO) on his left hand was among five persons caught involved in an illegal cockfighting session here last Sunday (Feb 7).
In the 3.30pm incident in Sibu Jaya, the raiding team led by Sibu Jaya station chief Insp Rodua Tayo managed to arrest five men involved.
District police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said during the arrest, one of them was found wearing a white HSO bracelet on his left hand.
The suspect, who wore an HSO bracelet, had just undergone a Covid-19 smear screening test at 8am on the same day at the Sibu Jaya Health Clinic and was said to have left his house for the illegal session at 12.30pm before being detained by the police.
“During the raid, all the suspects attempted to flee the scene after noticing the police. However, they were successfully chased down and detained.
“Among the items seized are the cockerels and equipment used for the activity,” he said.
Stanley noted that the suspects were violating the movement control order (MCO) conditions, which is effective until Feb 14 for Sibu district. Under the restrictions, none is allowed to conduct any activity involving mass gathering such as cockfighting, he pointed out.
All the suspects are now remanded to facilitate investigations and will be issued a RM1,000 compound each for violating the MCO conditions.
The case will be investigated in accordance with Section 3 (1) of the Prevention of Violence Against Animals Measures Ordinance 1962 and Section 22 (b) of the Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Act 1988 (Act 342).
