Plantation security guard nabbed in assault case

MIRI: Police have detained five men to assist investigation into an assault case at an oil palm plantation here last Sunday.

All of the suspects were detained around 10am this morning and are being remanded at Miri Centre Police station (CPS).

In the 2pm incident, the victim, aged 22, sustained injuries on his body after he was attacked with sticks and bare hands by about at least six people.

Prior to the incident, the victim was about to exit the estate, when he was confronted by several on-duty security personnel.

They purportedly told the victim that he was not allowed to walk out from the estate.

Minutes later, an argument ensued and one of the suspects allegedly hit the victim on the head from behind.

A video on the incident, lasting about one minute 26 seconds, showed the victim was assaulted and hit multiple times by his assailants. The video clip has gone viral since Monday morning.

Miri Police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari confirmed receiving a report on the incident.

The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons and Section 506 for criminal intimidation.
