KUCHING: Karipap Nyaman Mak Kamek has no shortage of regular visitors at the Metrocity Youth Night Market in Jalan Matang here.

With its crispy skin and generous filling, customers will definitely come back to buy the curry puffs again and again.

However, since the implementation of the movement control order (MCO) following the Covid-19 pandemic which hit the country in March last year, stall owner Nurain Jasmi, decided to close her stall at the night market and operate from home, which disappointed many customers.

However, there is good news for Karipap Nyaman Mak Kamek’s loyal customers — you can now get your favourite curry puffs directly from Nurain herself!

“Before selling curry puffs at the night market, I have been running a small business in front of my house (in Kampung Samariang Bentara) since 2016 by selling food items such as burgers, fried noodles, fried rice as well as Mee Jawa.

“I did not expect my decision to open a stall at the night market and sell curry puffs, to be popular among visitors.

Alhamdulillah, the profit made from selling these curry puffs has helped me to increase my family’s side income,” she said recently.

The 28-year-old housewife said she did not expect that donating the curry puffs she made to her friend’s family, as well as to the children in her village, to be the starting point of selling the curry puffs.

“After deciding to close the booth at the night market, I started operating my business from home.

“Apart from selling various food items at the stall in front of my house, I also provide delivery services for customers,” she said, adding that since her curry puffs became famous, she had been earning up to RM3,000 a month.

Operating from 10am until 10pm every day, Karipap Nyaman Mak Kamek fans can visit Nurain’s stall in Kampung Samariang Bentara to satisfy their cravings for curry puffs.

So far, Nurain offers two types of curry puff fillings, namely dried shrimp with sweet potato which is sold at RM1 for three pieces, and meat with potato (RM2 for five pieces). Both are also available in frozen packs (each contains 15 pieces) priced at RM5 for dried shrimp with sweet potato as well as RM6 (meat with potato).
