KUCHING: Twenty-nine civil servants underwent a day-long Building Information Modelling (BIM) proficiency training programme.
The Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA)-organised programme which introduced the concept of BIM, and its interlinked multiplier effects and applications was held in collaboration with the Public Works Department (JKR) and Akademi Binaan Malaysia (ABM).
“Digital competency development for the state civil service is a strategic action of Sarawak’s Digital Economy enablers and SMA remains committed to pursuing such upskilling initiative.
“The intended outcome of such digital initiative will equip state agencies overseeing the construction industry with a strong foundation to give excellent digital service delivery and governance,” SMA general manager Dr Zaidi Razak said.
Meanwhile, SMA deputy chief scientist Prof Dr Al-Khalid Othman said the programme was in line with the Sarawak government’s aspirations to produce skilled and competent workers to propel the state towards a developed state by 2030.
“With the critical thinking, solving complex problems, creativity, and soft skills attributes, these programmes are also in line with the state’s aspiration through the Sarawak Economic Action Council (SEAC).
“These skilled manpower preparations proposed by JKR Sarawak to ensure BIM will be adopted early in the design process of any physical project development,” he said.
He BIM could expedite construction, coordinate project management, improve facility management and optimise construction costs.
