BINTULU: A large section of a sawmill was destroyed in an early morning fire here today (Feb 12).
Fortunately, no one was injured.
The State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre said the fire at Jalan Kemena was reported by a security guard at 5.12am.
Apparently, a power trip had complicated early attempts by sawmill workers to put out the fire as the gateway entrance to the building could not be opened.
Seventeen firefighters from the Bintulu fire station were deployed to the scene.
A Bomba spokesman said the fire destroyed several machines and 70 percent of the building.
The fire was put out by 9.12am.
