KUCHING: The Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sarawak (ACCCIS) had voiced out their concerns over the Sales Tax and Service Tax (SST).
ACCCIS and Sarawak Tyre Dealers and Retreaders Association (STDRA) made a courtesy call on Comptroller of SST Elean Masa’at to discuss the issues pertaining to the implementation of SST imposed on imported tyres including tyres attached onto the imported vehicles into Sarawak.
The discussions consisted of concerns on the collection and recovery of the SST in arrears chargeable for the whole of last year.
“State government should waive the outstanding payment of the SST chargeable for last year as most businesses were adversely affected by the deteriorating economy impacted by the pandemic,” appealed SDTRA.
Meanwhile, the delegates had also highlighted the need to fine tune the mechanism of enforcement of the SST on imported tyres so as to ensure fair competition in the industry.
“More publicity and briefings are required to disseminate information and create awareness among the tyres traders on the implementation of the SST on imported tyres,” they opined.
ACCCIS stated that they were grateful with the time and efforts given by Elean for holding such informative dialogue by providing an overview on the implementation process of the SST including registration, submission of return, assessment, payment and inspection.
“We are also grateful that we are able to play an effective intermediary role and serve as a purposeful consultative platform between the government and the private sector in its quest to provide a conducive and friendly business environment for the entrepreneurs and investors,” they added.
Also present during the delegation meeting were ACCCIS vice president Kuek Eng Mong, and their secretary-general Jonathan Chai Voon Tok, together with STDRA chairman Lim King Hong, and its deputy Secretary-General Ngieng Hock Teck.
