KUCHING: Three of Sarawak Energy’s facilities were recognised for environmental initiatives and conservation efforts at the Prime Minister’s Hibiscus Award (PMHA) 2019/2020 at a virtual event ceremony on Feb 25.
“This is the first time that we have participated in the award and we are honoured to receive Notable Achievements in Environmental Performance for our three generation facilities,” said Sarawak Energy’s Group chief executive officer, Datuk Sharbini Suhaili.
He said this when delivering his remarks receiving the award on behalf of the corporation, now Malaysia’s largest renewable energy provider, at PHMA 2019/20 virtual ceremony.
The corporation’s Mukah Power Generation, Murum Hydroelectric Plant and Bakun Hydroelectric Plant all received the Notable Achievements in Environmental Performance.
“We take multiple approaches in our projects and operations to enhance environmental quality through management, awareness and conservation initiatives.
“This minimises negative impact on the environment by creating a high level of environmental awareness and compliance through collaborations with relevant authorities and stakeholders,” said Sharbini.
He concluded saying that the award will motivate the corporation to do better and gave good opportunity to benchmark themselves against the best companies in environmental stewardship.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, said in his speech that there must be a concentrated effort by stakeholders, the government, industry players, academicians and the public to improve and facilitate sustainable living.
“Industrialisation in Malaysia needs to be environmental-friendly with a sustainable consumption and production approach,” Muhyiddin added.
