KUCHING: Community leaders are more than capable of tackling the problems faced by the people, said Penghulu Ley Kok Lun.
He said this in response to a statement by Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarikei branch vice-chairman Wong Pak Ming in which he called for fairness in the appointment of ketua kaum (community leaders).
“Ketua masyarakat and ketua kaum (KMKK) which include Temenggung, Penghulu, and Kapitan are there to help each other serve the community.
“I have explained before that the KMKK is responsible in serving everyone regardless of their backgrounds.
“It is important for leaders to serve their people well. Did Wong not understand my press statement before? In addition, the condition for the appointment of KMKK is that they must be Repok voters.
“In Sarikei, all areas have their own community leaders. Kapitan Ling Sien Chuong and Pemanca Chan Phan Chan are well informed on the challenges faced by their people,” he said.
