SEMATAN: Though construction was delayed, the Sematan Industrial Park and Anjung Usahawan Sematan will still be completed as scheduled, assures Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan.
“The contractors for the Industrial Park project are confident that they will be able to complete it as scheduled on Dec 22, 2021.
“Contractors for the Anjung Usahawan Sematan project have given their assurance as well, that it will be completed within the stipulated period or maybe two months earlier than scheduled,” the Deputy Chief Minister said during a site visit on Wednesday (March 10).
According to him, the entire industrial park was developed on 52.38 acres of land with the first phase of the project, costing RM8.5mil, covering an area of 13.25 acres, comprised 10.09 acres for industrial lots and 3.16 acres for the Anjung Usahawan.
“Whereas the construction for Anjung Usahawan Sematan costs about RM9.3mil, including the elevated reinforced-concrete water tank and pump house.
“This project in particular will also serve as a place to collect and process fishery and agricultural products for the Sematan and Lundu areas.”
Awang Tengah also mentioned that this integrated project was an effort by the state government to provide opportunities for locals to get involved in business.
Aside from the projects being fully funded by the state government, they are also approved under the 11th Malaysia Plan (RMK-11) taking into account the potential of the Tanjong Datu constituency in terms of agriculture, fisheries and ecotourism.
“The government even has the initiative to build an artificial reef project from Tanjung Datu to Lawas to ensure that marine life here is well protected.
“The existence of this industrial park can further develop seafood, cottage industry and available resources, including for logistics, buildings and related industries.”
He added that all these efforts were to meet the needs of entrepreneurs, especially small and medium enterprises as well as to address the problem of the lack of industrial areas in small towns in Sarawak.
