KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 199 new positive Covid-19 cases on Wednesday (Mar 10), bringing the state’s tally to 11,710.
Sibu District accounted for 41 of the cases, Kapit and Kuching (33 cases each), Miri (22), Song (19), eight cases each in Bintulu and Tatau, Serian, Bau and Betong each recorded six cases, Samarahan (four), Bukit Mabong (three), Mukah and Pusa (two each), while Dalat, Saratok, Sarikei, Sri Aman, Subis and Selangau each recorded one case.
“Of the 199 new cases reported, 30 people or 15.07 percent showed signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection during screening,” Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said in a statement today.
On the breakdown of the new cases, it said 60 were persons screened in existing active clusters, 95 were individuals who had contact with positive cases, 16 were symptomatic persons screened at health facilities, 24 were other screenings at health facilities and four were individuals who had returned from other Malaysian states (categorised as Import B cases).
Of the 41 cases reported in Sibu District, 23 were individuals screened through active case detection (ACD), 15 were other screenings at health centres, and three were symptomatic individuals screened at health centres.
The 33 cases reported in Kuching District comprised of 21 from the Emperoh Jambu Cluster, five were individuals screened through ACD, four were locals returning from high-risk areas (categorised as Import B cases from Selangor), one involved the Jalan Green Cluster, one screened at a health centre, and a symptomatic person screened at a health centre.
In Kapit District, 24 of the new cases involved the Gelong Cluster, five were individuals screened through ACD, two were symptomatic individuals screened at health centres, and two were other screenings at health centres.
As for the 22 cases in Miri District, 12 were individuals screened through ACD, six were individuals with symptoms screened at health centres, three were other screenings at health centres, and one was a health worker.
All six cases in Bau District were individuals screened through ACD where five were categorised as local infections and one as an Import C case from Kuching.
Meanwhile, three of the four cases recorded in Samarahan District involved the Emperoh Jambu Cluster (categorised as Import C cases from Kuching) while one was categorised as other screening at a health centre.
Of the six cases in Serian District, four were individuals screened through ACD and the other two were symptomatic persons screened at health centres.
