KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 173 Covid-19 positive cases today bringing the state’s tally to 12,051.

Of the total, 71 were reported in Sibu, Miri (19), Bintulu (16), Kuching (15), Meradong (10), Serian (nine), Julau (seven) Kapit and Tanjung Manis — five each, Betong (three), Belaga, Mukah, Sri Aman, Subis and Telang Usan — two each, while Dalat, Samarahan and Sarikei recorded one case each.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said 19 or 10.98 percent from the 173 new cases showed symptoms during screening.

“Of the new cases reported, 105 were individuals screened after having contact with positive cases, 33 were individuals linked to active clusters, 16 were symptomatic individuals screened in health facilities while 19 others were asymptomatic,” he said in a daily Covid-19 press conference today.

Uggah also said 203 patients had recovered and were discharged from hospitals on Sunday — 84 from Sibu Hospital, 32 from Sarikei Hospital, 29 from Kapit Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC), 26 from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), 19 from Bintulu Hospital, 12 from Miri Hospital, and one from Betong PKRC.

“This brings the total number of recovered and discharged cases to 9,590 or 79.58 percent of total Covid-19 cases in Sarawak,” he pointed out.

He added that there were 2,330 individuals still undergoing treatment at hospital isolation wards in the state — 844 in Sibu Hospital and PKRC, Miri Hospital and PKRC (385), Bintulu Hospital and PKRC (313), SGH and Kuching PKRC (261), Betong Hospital and PKRC (197), Kapit Hospital and PKRC (160), Sarikei Hospital and PKRC (113), Sri Aman Hospital and PKRC (20), Mukah PKRC (20), Serian PKRC (16) and Limbang Hospital (one).

“Today, 176 new person-under-investigation (PUI) cases have been reported and four PUIs are still awaiting laboratory results,” he said.
