KUCHING: Favourites Yayasan Sarawak-Sanjung Etika squad performed up to expectations to emerge as champions of Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg Cup 2017 football tournament.
However, the squad which have a few former Sarawak players in their line-up have to battle their way to beat KSK Satok 2-1 in the final held at State Stadium, Petra Jaya on Saturday night.
The two goals were scored by Mahadi Razak in the 6th minute while Paul Sambang scored another in the 50th minute. Determined KSK Satok tried to make a comeback with a goal by Said Mohd Adidie Ahmad Syd Mustada in 74th minute, but the score remained unchanged until the final whistle.
The victory enabled the Yayasan Sarawak-Sanjung Etika squad to take home a cash prize of RM5,000, a challenge trophy, accompany trophy and medals. Meanwhile, KSK Satok team received a cash prize of RM3,000, a trophy and medals for finishing second.
The semi-finalists DBKU-Borneo Island and Gedong Gators each received RM750 cash, trophies and medals as jont third winners. Tupong Assemblyman (ADUN), Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman who represented the Chief Minister gave away the prizes.
Also present were Sarawak Football Association president (FAS) Dato Posa Majais, Director of Yayasan Sarawak Azmie Bujang and senior manager of Lea Sports Centre Sdn. Bhd, Poh Siok Hoon. The prize presentation ceremony for the Kuching-LSC League 2017 was also held at the same time.
