SERIAN: The General Operations Force (GOF) nabbed two locals and six illegal immigrants on Monday (March 15).

District police chief DSP Aswandy Anis said a GOF team stopped two vehicles for inspection around 3am in Jalan Mongkos-Serian, about 8km from a known ‘rat trail’ (illegal route).

“Four persons-a local and three Indonesians-were inside the first car. Their (immigrants) passports had expired.

“The second car was also carrying four persons — a local and three Indonesians. They were checked and the foreigners did not have any valid travel documents.”

The Indonesians, comprising three men and three women aged between 23 and 43, had entered Sarawak for work via an illegal route.

DSP Aswandy added that all were arrested and the vehicles taken to Serian police station for further action.

The local men, believed to be ‘tekong’ (agents) aged 23 and 27, will be remanded under the Security Offenses (Special Measures) Act 2012 and investigated under Section 26A of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Migrant Smuggling (Atipsom) Act 2007.
