KUCHING: Sarawak police have identified several ‘tokan’ (drug dealers) in connection with a recent drug arrest involving two locals acting as couriers to deliver drugs worth RM267,940 to Indonesia.
State NCID chief ACP Jasmirol Jamaluddin revealed that further actions (on these tokan) will be taken in the near future.
“We have already detected and identified them as a syndicate led by a group of multiracial individuals.
“This is the latest information we have and just wait for the announcement of their arrest,” he said in a press conference on the One Stop Committee’s (OSC) monthly report on addressing substance abuse in February.
Today’s conference held at the Baitul Makmur II building was presided by Community Wellbeing Assistant Minister Datuk Francis Harden Hollis.
On the drug arrest, personnel at a roadblock arrested a local couple at KM30, Jalan Serian-Tebedu around 5am on Mar 5 and seized 14,880 Ecstasy pills and 0.73g of syabu.
During interrogations, both admitted to be involved in delivering drugs due to life difficulties and did it for a fee of RM3,000.
Other reason given was that they were unable to run their business due to the Covid-19 pandemic and therefore they could not earn any income and resulted in more difficulties. This was among answers the police obtained through thorough probing, Jasmirol pointed out.
“When they were indirectly given the opportunity to deliver drugs and got paid around RM1,500 to RM3,000, they believed that they could earn money faster with this easy task and that caused them to continue doing so.
“The second one is not because of life difficulties but instead, they are already used to be involved in these drug activities. We do not deny the second one as they are already used to ‘cari makan’ (looking for income),” he explained.
