SPAOH: Fire razed a house in Kampung Hilir Supa here to ground, rendering a family of five homeless last Sunday (March 21).
Betong fire chief Vincent Baling Yabi said they received a distress call about the blaze around 10.20pm.
When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found the house already burned to the ground.
“No casualties were reported as the occupants managed to get out as soon as the fire started.
“My men managed to put out the flames using a nearby open water source. The operations ended around 12.40am,” he said.
Vincent pointed out that his men faced several challenges that night such as the long distance from the fire station to the scene.
The fire truck could not reach the scene because of the narrow roads, so the firefighters had to use a four-wheel drive vehicle to reach the house.
The cause of the fire, as well as losses incurred, has yet to be figured out.
