BINTULU: Many foreign workers who came here had tested positive for Covid-19 and this has raised some concerns.
Local Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, has urged the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) to tighten movements between divisions and stop foreign workers from coming here.
“What is more worrying is that these foreign workers can go to various other places before they start their work in the oil and gas sector here. They can spread the virus and infect others,” he said in a statement, on Saturday.
He highlighted the issue following the detection of three foreign workers who tested positive for Covid-19 while working here recently.
He called on the police to do stricter inspections and set up roadblocks to prevent foreign workers from coming here.
“The least these foreign workers can do is show the relevant agencies that they are Covid-19 negative,” he said.
Tiong, who is also the Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to the People’s Republic of China, advised all employers or agents who bring foreign workers into the country to adhere to strict standard operating procedures (SOPs) under the conditional movement control order (CMCO).
“They must ensure that their employees undergo Covid-19 screening tests and quarantine for 14 days before being allowed to work here,” he said.
