KUCHING: The public have mixed feelings about the possibility of interstate and inter-district travel during the upcoming Hari Raya celebration.

Recently, the federal government stated that it would decide soon on whether to allow interstate travel during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.

“The government will review the matter and make an announcement when the time is right.

“The state muftis have allowed tarawih prayers to be carried out during Ramadan. Last year, they were not permitted at all,” said Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Personally, I don’t think it is wise to allow interstate travel during Hari Raya as people may bring the Covid-19 virus with them. However, inter-district travel, should be fine because I believe the state government will be able to trace and contain the spread if it happens among the people in the state only. My advice to the public is that they should check and quarantine themselves before going back to their hometowns during the festive season.

Interstate and inter-district travel should be allowed during Hari Raya because it will allow people to visit their families. Of course, they should also strictly adhere to the SOPs set. I believe that as long as the public strictly follow the SOPs and are Covid-19 negative, there should be no problem.

Interstate travel is okay in RMCO states as the number of transmissions will be low unlike the CMCO states.  Inter-district travel in Sarawak should be allowed between green zones. My advice to the public is to be patient if the government bans us from travelling.

Interstate and inter-district travel should be allowed as long as we adhere to the SOPs that have been implemented. Before I meet my family, I will make sure I do not have any symptoms, have enough sanitising kit supplies and always bring my vitamin C supplements with me to build up my immune system towards the virus.

I do not think that the interstate travel is a good move as the Covid-19 cases may increase and new clusters emerge. However, inter-district travel should be allowed as the state government is doing a great job in ensuring the safety of their people. I advise those who travel to follow the SOPs and quarantine themselves immediately upon arrival.

I think interstate travel should not be allowed during Hari Raya or any other festivities as the Covid-19 cases differ in each state. I suggest people celebrate with their families at home instead of travelling to their hometowns. Hari Raya and other festivals have been different ever since the pandemic but we are already in the second year and people should be aware of what to do. I hope people are able to wait for another year until every single one of us is vaccinated.
