KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 176 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing up the total number of cases to 16,390.
Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said Sibu recorded 30 cases followed by Kuching (29), Bintulu (25), Miri (19), Sarikei (13), Serian (11), Beluru (10), Meradong (eight), six each in Kapit and Matu, five each in Julau, Samarahan and Sri Aman and one each in Marudi, Saratok and Simunjan.
“Out of the 176 new cases, 33 individuals showed signs and symptoms of Covid-19 during screening tests.
“A total of 117 individuals were ordered to undergo quarantine order at designated centres,” it said.
The 117 individuals were among those who were identified through close contact with positive Covid-19 cases.
“A total of 100 cases were from individual screening tests while the other 16 were people with symptoms.
“Forty-seven cases were individuals from active clusters and 17 cases were symptomatic individuals at health facilities,” it said, adding that the other 12 cases were from other screening tests at health facilities.
Meanwhile, 134 cases have recovered and were allowed to be discharged from hospitals across the state.
“Of the 134 recovered cases, 34 each were discharged from Miri Hospital and Bintulu Hospital, Kapit Hospital (22), Sibu Hospital (19), Sarawak General Hospital (12), Sarikei Hospital (10), Betong Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) (2) and Serian PKRC (one).
“This tally puts up the cumulative number of recovered positive Covid-19 cases to 13,389 people or 81.69 percent,” SDMC said.
It added that 2,840 people are still receiving treatment at PKRCs and hospitals while 180 persons under investigation (PUI) were reported.
