MUKAH: Dalat and Mukah District Council (MDDM) will build permanent fruit stalls in the old town here soon to cater for the needs of traders.
Its walikota, Kadir Jamil, said the project was planned last year and listed under this year’s rural transformation programme (RTP).
He added the construction of a 60×20 feet building equipped with display tables, would be financed by a RM200,000 fund allocated by Tellian assemblyman Yussibnosh Balo.
“More than 20 traders who are currently operating at a congested site near Pasar Tamu and the Wet Market in the old town will be relocated to the new building once it is completed,” he said when visiting the site of the proposed project here today (April 1).
Kadir explained that relocating the traders would reduce the daily traffic jam at the current location while providing them with a comfortable place to trade.
According to him, the project will begin this year and is expected to be completed within three months after the building specification has been completed, tender process done and a contractor appointed.
Kadir added after the new building was completed, the traffic in the area would also be realigned for the convenience of the public.
He said for seasonal fruits sellers, a certain location would be provided for them.
Tellian constituency special officer and MDDM councillor Felix Pieng and Sarawak administrative officer (SAO) from Mukah district office Ismail Kasah also attended the event.
