KAPIT: The official closing ceremony of Mobile Youth Transformation Vocational (MYTV) was held at Dewan Kejora SMK Kapit 2, in Kapit yesterday. Held together with the Mobile Outreach Programme (MOP), the closing event of MYTV was jointly officiated at by Pelagus Assemblyman Wilson Nyabong Ijang and Commander of Medan Timur (East Medan) Army Lt. General Dato’ Wira Mohd Zaki bin Haji Mokhtar.
The MYTV youth transformation programme was iniated in 2015. This is one of the National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS) that is implemented jointly by the Sarawak State Government and the Malaysian Army.
At the same time, a total of 20 agencies comprising government departments, private sector, corporate bodies and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) were also involved in the programme. MYTV is aimed at providing youths the opportunity to compete among themselves in the marketing industry as well as giving job opportunities in the economic sectors that need certain specific skills.
This programme in Kapit has managed to train 190 participants in the woodwork industry, brickslaying, electrical wiring, piping system, culinary, hair cutting and agro technology.
Through this programme the youths in Kapit have managed to improve and upgrage their economic standard and wellbeing for a brighter future. Since the inception of this programme a total of 1181 youths in the state of Sarawak have been trained in the various fields and skills. Due to the skills acquired many of them have been enrolled to enter technical colleges to further improve and upgrade their skills.
Agencies that have contributed to the success of this programme included the Malaysian Army, Bukit Mabong District Office, Petronas, Akademi Binaan Malaysia, CIDB Malaysia, State Women and Family Department, Sarikei Community College, State Agriculture Department, National Strategy Unit (NSU), Social Development Counci l , Minist r y of Social , Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development.
Also attending the event were Buki t Goram As semblyman Jef fer son Jami t Unyat , Fi r s t Malaysian Infant r y Division Commander Major General Datuk Stephen Mundaw, Bukit Mabong District Officer Douglas Pungga Lawang, SMK Kapit2 principal Robin Anak Sabai, heads of departments, senior army officers and local community leaders.
