KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) must continue to be consistent in not allowing Malaya-based parties to contest in the upcoming state election, opines a political analyst.
Datuk Peter Minos noted that there was no problem in GPS and Perikatan Nasional (PN) being friendly as well as having good cooperation.
Having said that, he pointed out that Sarawak could handle its own politics without any Malaya-based party having to come in with their candidates.
Minos was commenting on whether PN’s recent pledge to mobilise machinery to help GPS in the upcoming state election indicated that Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia would nominate its candidate.
“What I have heard is that GPS will put up 82 candidates for the 82 State Legislative Assembly seats. I do not think there will be any candidates from Bersatu, and I think it is best for GPS as well as Sarawak.
“If Bersatu comes in then Umno and PAS also want in. Thus, GPS must be consistent in that no Malaya-based parties should be allowed in.”
Minos stated that GPS and Sarawak were better off without any Malaya-based parties coming into the state.
“Look how messy the politics there, with Umno giving ultimatums and threats to Bersatu. This is not the kind of politics that we want in Sarawak.
“We have no say or control on what the Opposition like DAP, PKR or Parti Sarawak Bersatu who are bringing in very rough and crude political cultures, but it is really up to them. If they feel unhappy of GPS’ moves then it is their business.”
