KUCHING: To unearth potential players for Sarawak Sepak Takraw Sukma squad, the Sarawak Sepak Takraw Association (PSS) will hold The Road To Sukma Sepak Takraw Championship Under 20 tournament (for those born 1997 and below) on Dec 23 to 24. The president of PSS, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Abang Khalid Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abang Marzuki said the closed regu and invitational tournament will be held at PSS Hall, Jalan Stadium, here.
According to him, PSS has identified some potential players to represent Sarawak Sukma squad next year, but is still looking for the best players to be absorbed into the Sarawak squad. “We are confident that through this tournament, we will be able to identify more players that are capable of bringing Sarawak’s challenge.
Therefore, this tournament is joined by all PSS Affiliates including those that have not joined the PSS. “We have also invited some sepak takraw clubs with players below 20 years to compete in this tournament.
Our main goal is to find as many potential players to represent Sarawak in Sukma,” he said at a press release recently. Abang Khalid said the players who participated in the tournament are expected to show high spirit, self-esteem and potentials. The players will be judged by a selection panel which will monitor the players’ performance, skills and potentials throughout the tournament.
“We organise this competition in a league format in the early stages to give space and opportunity to every player to highlight their potentials. “So take this chance. Show your talents which will qualify you to join the Sarawak Sukma squad,” he added.
On the selection of players, Abang Khalid said PSS would work with each of the affiliates to track and identify the players although they are not in the competition. “We are not tied up in the competition, but the players selection will be done all the time, and if we think the players are more likely to play, we will take them for the challenge,” he added.
