SIBU: A late night drinking session at a cafe here last Wednesday resulted in the patrons, owner and employees of the cafe compounded for violating the conditional movement control order (CMCO) standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Sibu District police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said during the operation, all the customers were unaware of the presence of the authorities who raided the premises.
He said 31 customers of the cafe as well as the cafe owner and its employees were issued compounds for flouting the CMCO
“During the operation led by Sibu Crime Prevention and Community Policing chief DSP Ariffin Bahar, his team found that the cafe was operating overtime and full of customers enjoying alcoholic beverages.
“The monitoring team found that the cafe was still operating at 10.45pm.
“Also compounded were the cafe owner and his eight employees, comprising four men and four women,” he said in a statement today.
Stanley said the cafe owner was compounded RM10,000 while eight employees were each issued RM1,500 compound.
Similarly, he said all 31 of its customers, aged between 16 and 55 years old comprising 16 men and 15 women, were also issued RM1,500 compound notices.
He reminded that all business operations must close at 10pm during the CMCO period.
