KUCHING: The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) is looking into 37 maintenance projects, mostly involving soil erosion, in its jurisdiction.

“There are quite a few problems involving soil erosion, including at Kampung Semeba, in February due to heavy rain and flooding,” said MPP chairman Lo Khere Chiang.

“Out of the 37 projects, five have been completed,” he revealed, after assessing work on a gabion wall along Jalan Semeba, today.

He said gabion walls were one of the measures to prevent soil erosion and the project along Jalan Semeba would be completed within three weeks.

The project cost around RM30,000, he added. “We try to get the contractor to do it as fast as possible because this road is small.

“During the morning and afternoon, many vehicles pass through this road so we try to complete it quickly.”

Meanwhile, Lo said the 37 projects would take about six to eight months to be completed.

“MPP is big, from Telaga Air to Puncak Borneo, so some are going to be difficult and some, not so.

“I can’t tell you exactly when we are going to finish, but now is the dry season. So it is a good time to carry out the projects.

“We will get them done as soon as we can before the wet season comes.”

Also present during the inspection was MPP deputy chairman Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim.
