KOTA SAMARAHAN: A car which was earlier reported stolen near a cafe here was found in the river at Muara Tuang ferry jetty by members of the public today (Apr 15).
District police chief DSP Sudirman Kram said the vehicle could have been deliberately ditched by the perpetrator or that the car fell into the river while being driven away.
He assured that police were conducting investigations into the case.
“On Wednesday at approximately 11.00pm, the complainant parked his car in a parking lot behind a cafe at Taman Desa Ilmu, here. Later at about midnight when the complainant returned to the car park, he found that the car was gone.
“At approximately 12.02am, the Kota Samarahan district police headquarters control room was informed by the public regarding the discovery of a Silver Perodua Alza car submerged in the river at the Muara Tuang ferry jetty.
“Upon examination, it was found that the car was the one reported missing by the complainant,” he said on Thursday.
Sudirman said that no victims were found in the submerged vehicle.
“So far no casualties have been reported and it is believed that the criminal who fled with the car came out of the driver’s window which was open when the car was found in the river.
“The police do not reject the assumption that the vehicle may be deliberately submerged by criminals or that the vehicle fell into the river while being taken away.
“Further investigations are still underway,” he said.
