KUCHING: There will be sufficient supply of chicken and at affordable prices throughout the festive seasons of Hari Raya Puasa and Gawai Dayak.
The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) Sarawak, in a statement today (April 15), assured that its enforcement officers would be deployed to markets, farmers markets and hypermarkets to ensure that the price and supply of the meat are stable and sufficient throughout the festive season.
The ministry noted there were complaints in the social media regarding increase in the price of chicken at the markets.
It said the net sales price of standard chicken from January to April is between RM7.90 to RM8.80 per kg.
Inspections conducted at Medan Niaga Satok and markets around Petrajaya found that the supplies of chicken were stable and sold at prices between RM7.89 per kg to RM8.80 per kg.
The ministry had also conducted an ‘Ops Pasar’ from Jan 1 until April 14, where it inspected a total of 17,394 business premises including farms, factories, importers, manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers.
During the operation, its enforcement officers seized goods worth RM648,155 in 379 cases, mostly for offences under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act (AKHAP) 2011. The cases were compounded a total of RM35,150.
The ministry also said that its ‘Ops Pantau’ was currently on-going to monitor and ensure that the price of food items and essentials are stable during Ramadan and Aidilfitri.
It added that the ministry was working together with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry to ensure daily food supplies were sufficient and sold at affordable prices.
